my April Christmas cards (a little late)

I was so busy in April that I didn’t get a chance to make a few Christmas cards.  So now I am catching up!  The monthly Dirty Dozen Christmas card challenge on Splitcoast for April was to use any bird image.  I decided to use this cute little Paper Smooches cardinal and some Jillibean Soup papers to make a few clean & simple cards.

The bird and branch were paper pieced and the beak and needles were colored with Copics.  I love that little bird but I think my favorite part is the paper pieced branch…

The brown patterned layer with words came from a piece of 12×12 papers.  I also happened to have the same print in the 6×6 size pad, so I used the smaller size to paper piece the branch.

I still have a long way to go to finish my cards for the 2012 holiday, but I am so glad that I slowly keep plugging along!  If you want to join us, use the keyword SCSCCAPR12 when you upload to the SCS gallery.

hang in there

Well, our glorious weather disappeared a bit.  Cooler temps are back but that’s ok…we enjoyed it while it was here.  It was a nice taste of what’s to come.

I’ve been busy with a few projects lately and hadn’t taken time to photograph anything so last night I did just that.  Here’s one of two masculine cards I recently made.  I’ll try to post the other one tomorrow.

For this card I used the Paper Smooches Hang Ups set.  I ♥ Paper Smooches!  It’s been way too long since I took time to use them!

I made this for a nephew who is on crutches.  He likes to hunt for squirrels so I thought he’d get a kick out of this one.  I really wanted to add more to the card… it’s hard not to bling it up when you are making a masculine one!  LOL.

stuffed strawberries…yum!

I have a really sweet recipe page today!  I made these for a “girl’s night out” (stamping with my friends) a few weeks ago and they were gone in a flash!  Yummo!  It all started when Jenn Balcer posted a photo online of some stuffed strawberries and I knew right away I wanted needed to try making them.  I compared a few recipes I found and scribbled down the amount of ingredients I chose to use.  Then I decided that I needed to dip them in chocolate…um hum!

The paper-pieced strawberry is from Paper Smooches Fruitastic.  Since I like to scrap my recipes, I knew this was a must have set!  The sentiment at the top is from Sugar Rush.  It really says You make Life sweet but I omitted the “you”.  The dashed lines under the title are from Santa Paws.

This recipe page was created for the Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge.  The bright pink flower in the photo inspired me to use the strawberry image.  I added red accents but I had to switch out the blue accents for green to match my papers.  And I added a clear gemstone accent.

Now here’s what they look like…go ahead…you know you wanna make ’em too!  :0)

a swanky snow family

Hello!  I have 2 posts today.  First I have another Paper Smooches card and later I’ll post my Dare To Get Dirty challenge for Splitcoast.  Also…don’t forget to add your name for the blog candy…it will close in less than 24 hours!

This card sort-of reminds me of the three bears.  LOL.

This snow family is from the Paper Smooches Swanky Snowdudes set.  I made this card for the Sparks Challenge but it also fits juliemlacey’s, JeanneS’s, and lisahenke’s DTGD challenges over at SCS.

The sketch is from Designer Drafts 3– the middle one on the bottom.  What a fun sketch!

swanky pink snowlady

Second post for today~ lots to share this week and so I’m back with another fun Paper Smooches card.  These images are seriously addicting!!!

I used the Swanky Snowdudes stamp set, along with Kim’s Cool Shades for inspiration.  (The colors are from the top right corner of the June Cool Shades).

To create the background I used several of the words and images, carefully lining them up on the acrylic block.  Then it was stamped repeatedly several times to fill in the entire background.

The “North Pole” image was stamped horizontally across the snow lady’s mid-section to create the bottom of her sweater.  She was colored and cut out, then the snowflakes were stamped with pink to make a pattern on the sweater.

This card was created for the Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge

Have a great day!

friendly flowers

Today I’ve another card for the Paper Smooches challenges.  This set is called Friendly Flowers.  Seriously cute blooms!

I think this is my favorite flower from the set (if I have to choose only 1!)  I curved the stem a bit to follow the shape of the circle…a bonus you can do with clear stamps!  And I masked the “o” in hello so the leaf could peek through from behind.  The sentiment is from the flower set too.

I started with another DCWV textured card base.  I’m really starting to ♥ these!  I don’t know why they sat in my drawer for so long!  This time I cut off the right side of the card to make it square.  I didn’t throw away the extra piece though.  The back of the card base is that lovely salmon color so I added that strip to the front.  Perfect way to get a matching layer!  The dotted pattern that was cut from the front I then glued to the inside…you can see a portion of it here…

I love this sketch…so simple and sweet!  It’s from the Designer Drafts #5 (the middle sketch on the right side).

Stay cool…it’s gonna be a scorcher today!

stamps- Paper Smooches Friendly Flowers; paper- white, DCWV textured card; ink- Memento Black; accessories- ribbon, Copics- Y35,38, E33, Promarkers- blender, Arctic Blue, Sky Blue, Bright Orange, Soft Peach, Pear Green, Lime Green, Henna.

chubby puppy

I ♥ the animals in the Paper Smooches Chubby Chums set.  This puppy is so cute.  He has one spot on his ear but since I wanted to keep him white, I gave him a few more.  I *almost* gave him googly eyes…they’re sure fixed on that cupcake!  drool!

The sketch I used is from the Designer Drafts #1 (bottom right corner) and it inspired me to turn this into a flap card.  Here’s the inside…

Just a hint…I like to buy the Clear Sticky-back Velcro…it is MUCH thinner so it’s not so bulky on your card.  Plus the “soft” part is a lighter white and the “scratchy” part is clear…so it doesn’t stand out so much.

Made this for the P.S. Sparks Challenge…

paper piecing digital images

I was recently asked how to paper piece digital images with your computer’s printer.  So I thought I’d take a few photos to help explain how it’s done.

For this card I used the July free digital images at Paper Smooches.  (There’s Crystal Effects on the cherries so they’re nice and shiny IRL).

The cupcake is actually a single image but I deleted the white background and placed 3 cupcakes together using Photoshop Elements.  The middle cupcake was flipped horizontally.  I am not real experienced with PE so I had to play around a bit until I got what I wanted and honestly, I forget exactly how I did it.  LOL.  I’ll have to play some more and write it down next time!  You don’t have to do multiples, though…it would be best to start with a single image.  Keep it simple!

After I had my image the way I liked, I printed my “base” copy onto white cardstock (top of photo).  Then I printed it a second time onto plain white printer paper.  Using double sided temporary tape, I cut some scraps of designer paper and attached them over selected areas of the image on the printer paper.  This was run through the printer a second time to get the parts of the image that I wanted onto the designer paper (bottom of photo).

I repeated this several times until I had all the pieces of designer paper printed with the areas I had selected (photo below).  I chose to paper piece the entire thing but you could paper piece some and color the rest.

Next just cut your pieces out and glue to the “base” image.  It’s really quite easy…I hope you try it!

The layout for this card came from the Designer Drafts #4 (the middle one on the right).  And it was made for the Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge.

digital images- Paper Smooches Cupcake and Thoughtful; paper- white, brown, kraft, dp- Wasabi, Real Red, Kraft, Pretty in Pink; ink- computer printer; accessories- Crystal Effects, Copics for the words, cherry stems, and shadows.

Santa’s shorts

Yup..I’m back with another Paper Smooches card.  What can I say?  They’re addicting!  LOL.

This time it looks like Santa got some boxers for Christmas…or pj’s.  And Rudolf is sporting a matching night cap.  (It’s a good thing Santa’s beard covers most of his belly ’cause I have a feeling it aint a pretty sight) LOL.

I used the stamp with the dashed lines from the Santa Paws set to create the plaid on the shorts and small cap.  Both caps are popped up on dimensionals.  The sentiment is from Swanky Snowdudes

I was going to use Liquid Applique on the caps but I noticed that my white LA has yellowed.  Anyone have that problem?  So I found a Puffy Velvet marker and used it instead.  It works the same…it’s just more of a liquid when applied.  It’s hard to see, but I also applied Crystal Effects to Santa’s glasses.

The sketch I used is from Designer Drafts #6…the middle sketch on the right.

Have a great weekend!

party pup

Hi!  I have a clean and simple card today…another sample for the Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge.  Kim’s images are so fun!

This pup is from the Santa Paws set but as you can see, he is not limited to Christmas cards!  The sentiment is from Sugar Rush.

I decided that he needed a spiffy jacket to go to the birthday party…so I created one by stamping two of the presents side-by-side.  Here’s how:

The colors were inspired by the Cool Shades #3 (second row across) and the sketch is from Designer Drafts #1 (bottom left).  You can find these in the sidebar of the P.S. blog.

Have an awesome day!
