Selma & Gladys

Hello friends!  It’s time for another Challenge Chicks Challenge!  We’re a small group of friends who post a new challenge on the first Sunday of each month…no stress, no deadlines…just for fun.  And we’d love to have you join us!  This month it is my turn and my challenge is “Giggle Greetings”- Make a humorous card!  Who doesn’t love a funny card?

When it comes to funny cards, a few companies come to mind.  One that I love is Art Impressions…especially the Golden Oldies.  These two ladies are Selma and Gladys, a few of my faves!  They crack me up!

The bubbles say “Oh my dear, those stripes are sooo slimming!” and “Good heavens! that skirt does wonders!”.  Inside the card it reads “Friends always know just the right things to say!“.  ha!  I can so relate to these ladies…friends can be the best!

Here’s a bit closer photo of the ladies.  I colored them with Copics.

The striped suit was brushed with a clear Wink Of Stella pen and I went over the tiny green “skirt” also.  I really wish it was easier to photograph sparkles!  I took a tilted shot but it’s still hard to see.

Hello friends!  It’s time for another Challenge Chicks Challenge!  We’re a small group of friends who post a new challenge on the first Sunday of each month…no stress, no deadlines…just for fun.  And we’d love to have you join us!  This month it is Anna’s turn and her challenge is “Halloween”…Make a card/project with a Halloween theme!

I LOVE shaped cards and I love to make my own patterns but I haven’t had much time for that lately… so it was super fun to sketch a bit and create this Cauldron Card!

The card fold is at the top, underneath the brew.  I added a few bubbles, some bones, and an eyeball….uh…yum?

Here’s a template if you want to make one too.  🙂  Click on the image and then right-click to save it to your computer.

    scored rays

It’s the first of the month, which brings a new challenge on the Scor-Pal blog.  This month we are making our projects Bright & Sunny!  It’s also time for another Challenge Chicks Challenge! This month Lydia said to show something with Light on your card!  So here’s my sample for both challenges with stamped and diecut images by Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps.

I used my Scor-Pal to randomly score some rays and then I sponged over them with yellow ink to highlight them.

Come join us on the Scor-Pal Blog for the June Challenge!

    color strips

Hello friends!  It’s time for another Challenge Chicks Challenge!  We’re a small group of friends who post a new challenge on the first Sunday of each month…no stress, no deadlines…just for fun (and we’d love to have you join us)!  This month it is Kelly’s turn and her challenge is “Causing a Scene”…Make a card/project with a spring or summer outdoor scene!

I used some of my favorite Sweet ‘n Sassy silhouettes to create my card…

Want to make this card?  It’s easy!  I don’t know if there’s a name for this technique… I was just playing around and ended up with these results.  So I will call it Color Strips.

Start with a nice heavy white cardstock base (4 1/4 x 5 1/2 card) and an additional piece of 2 3/4 x 5 white cardstock.  Note: The white panel can be stamped first and then cut into strips BUT I want to have nice crisp images so I will do my sponging first.

Cut the 2 3/4 x 5 piece of white cardstock into 4 equal strips, each 1 1/4 x 2 3/4.  Sponge each strip with a different color of ink, applying the colors darker on the bottom of each one.  Then punch a small circle in scratch paper and use it as a mask to sponge additional yellow ink onto the yellow strip, creating a sun.

Using a temporary adhesive, line the strips up and tape them onto scratch paper, leaving a small gap between them.

Stamp images from Nature Silhouettes with Black ink (Versafine works nice!) across the 4 strips.

Align a ruler or similar item across the bottom of your card base to aide in placement of the color strips.  Apply foam tape or dimensionals to the back of each and space them out on the card.  Remove backing from foam tape and adhere in place, using the ruler edge as a guide to keep them straight.

Stamp a sentiment (mine is from my Special Blend stamp set), add a tiny rhinestone to the butterfly, and you are done!

Hello friends!  It’s time once again for another Challenge Chicks Challenge!  We’re a small group of friends who post a new challenge on the first Sunday of each month…no stress, no deadlines…just for fun (and we’d love to have you join us)!  This month it is Kelli’s turn and her challenge theme is “Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone… Make a missing you card!”.

I pulled out this Sweet ‘n Sassy image called Benjamin Bunny.  He’s been retired but is still available as a digital image.

I finally tried the Wink of Stella pens…love!  The flowerpot and flower are very sparkly!

    spring flowers

Hello friends!  It’s time once again for another Challenge Chicks Challenge!  We’re a small group of friends who post a new challenge on the first Sunday of each month…no stress, no deadlines…just for fun!  This month it is Jeanne’s turn and her challenge theme is “Spring Flowers”.  What a welcomed theme!  I am sooo ready for flowers!

I just got the SU! hostess set called Morning Meadow (along with the tag punch and embossing folder I used) so I was anxious to use them.  Here’s my card.

I cut a little cardstock “ribbon” for the top of the tag and stapled it in place.  What a pretty set!  I’m sure I’ll use it again soon.

    my furry valentine

Hello friends!  It’s time once again for another Challenge Chicks Challenge!  We’re a small group of friends who post a new challenge on the first Sunday of each month…no stress, no deadlines…just for fun!  This month it is my turn and my challenge theme is “My Furry Valentine”…use any kind of animal to make a Valentine!  I was going to make a card and then I changed my mind and decided on a treat box.   Here’s my furry valentine…

I used the puppy from my Sweet ‘n Sassy Valentine Critters and popped him up on the front.  The “Happy Valentine’s Day” sentiment was placed on the acrylic block in a curve so it could be stamped across the top of the back and align to the curved shape of it.

    A close up…

I love the Sizzix XL dies and this Fry Box is one of my faves.  I see it is now only $7.99 on the Sizzix site…wow!

Have a great week, friends!  I hear Ol’ Phil saw his shadow.  And there’s more snow is in the forecast.  🙁

    happy snow day!

I still can’t believe we started a new year already.  Boy has it started out coooold!  brr!  We got about 7 inches of snow so I have enjoyed being “cooped up” the past few days.  It’s nice to have a little extra down-time now and then.

It’s also time once again for another Challenge Chicks Challenge!  This month Anna challenged us to create a Winter Wonderland.  Perfect!  All I have to do is look out the window for inspiration.  Here’s my snowy card…

I used my favorite image from Sweet ‘n Sassy Snowy Hello.  The SNSS fence die was popped up with foam tape and then I applied some Aleene’s True Snow to give it added dimension.

    shedding layers

It’s the first Sunday of the month, which means…it’s time for another Challenge Chicks Challenge!  This month Lydia challenged us to shed those winter layers!  In other words, she wants us to make a one-layer card that has NOTHING to do with winter.  So here’s my CAS, one layer card…

(This is also a sneak peek of a new Sweet ‘n Sassy set this month!)  😉
