ugly sweaters

Hello friends and Happy Thanksgiving!  I hope you all are able to spend this day with family and friends, giving thanks for all God has blessed us with!

It may be Thanksgiving, but today the Art Impressions team is featuring the new Ai Michael’s exclusive Christmas Clear & PopCards Sets! Here I used the SC0799- Ugly Sweater set.

I’ve been wanting to make some CAS cards with a little selective, “spotlight”, coloring and I thought this gal would be perfect for it! I tried 2 different styles with masking and sponging on each. Both used a combination of masking with a post-it note and some masking fluid for the tiny areas. On the first one, I simply sponged green ink on the right side.

For the second one, I covered the masked image with a dotted stencil and sponged on some red ink. For both, I kept my image close to the bottom so I could add a strip of patterned paper to the top. After selectively coloring a few areas, I finished them with some Stickles and tied on some linen thread.

Happy Thanksgiving!

giving thanks

Hello friends and happy Monday!

Today I am on the Art Impressions blog with another card using the 4939- Full of Thanks set. This time I used the cute turkey in disguise!  I think he is the one giving thanks…for not landing on the dinner plate!

I used a Simon Says Stamp die for a layer to pop him up on and then added a few gold rhinestones for the “ground”.

Have a great Monday and a wonderful Thanksgiving… happy stamping!

here we come a-caroling tag

Hello friends!  The current Ai Challenge is “Tag It!” and we are featuring the new Art Impressions Thanksgiving & Christmas Clear Sets! Here I used 4936- Christmas Wonder Set to create my tag.

caroling tag 1 diane zechman

I started with a 4×7 piece of kraft cardstock for the base and die cut the bottom edge with an old PaperTrey Ink die, Edgers #2. The top corners were cut with a trimmer after tracing half of a 1″ square cut diagonally.

Then I sponged red ink over a stencil onto a 3 3/4 x 4 1/4 white cardstock for the diagonal stripes. A heart was diecut in the striped layer and I adhered patterned paper behind.

These caroling critters are so sweet! I popped them up with foam dots. The lamppost and sentiment were added, along with some ribbons and trim. I finished it off with a red snowflake cut from Ai’s 4804- Snowflake Dies.

so full… of thanks

Hello friends and happy Monday!

Today I am on the Art Impressions blog with a card using the 4939- Full of Thanks set. This set is perfect for your Thanksgiving projects! The sentiments are so fun.  I also used the Gina Marie Designs Pumpkin Quilt die which my friend, Tina, bought and then enabled our whole group of friends to purchase. LOL. Does that happen to you? It’s so pretty and makes the perfect background for this Ai set!

so full 1 diane zechman

While I was die cutting different papers to use, I figured I might as well switch the pieces around and make two cards.  These critters are so cute with their tummies full of pumpkin pie!

so full 2 diane zechman

I still had plenty of leftover pieces and needed a few “quick cards” but didn’t have time to color up some extra images.  My solution was to piece the pumpkin pieces together onto a patterned background and then stamp the images and sentiment on the inside.

I used rust and dark brown inks to give them some color without actually coloring. :)

wood slice ornaments

Hello friends and happy Monday!

Today I am on the Art Impressions blog with a Christmas project using two different Ai stamp sets… 4943 Singing Snowmen PopCard and 4809- Nativity MTF. The PopCards and Mini TryFolds images are SO fun to use as they were intended (creating interactive cards) but can also be used many other ways! Today I made some Birch Tag (wood slice) ornaments!

IMG_7144 copy

To begin, purchase some wood slices (or cut them yourself if you can!).  I purchased these Birch Tags at Michael’s and Hobby Lobby. I’ve also ordered some from Amazon which are a different type of wood and I haven’t used them yet. But I’m assuming I will have similar results.  The wood slices from Amazon are approx. 3/16″ in thickness compared to the M’s and H.L. ones which are 1/2″ thick.  My husband drilled holes in these for me but some come pre-drilled too.

Next you need to choose the Ai images you want to use. Remember that you can use just a portion of your image if it is too large.  The snowmen I used are from the new Singing Snowmen PopCard. For one, I stamped and masked the songbook before stamping the snowman.  Stazon ink works well but I used my Archival Black because that pad of mine seemed juicier at the moment and it also gave me the permanent ink that I needed for coloring.

I wanted to try the Inktense pencils on them and add water with a brush so the color would smooth out and wouldn’t just sit on top of the wood.  It might be easier to do some shading if you just use regular colored pencils such as Prismacolor.  It’s difficult to blend or shade this way but I do like the look. The wood soaks up the water so quick…you don’t need to worry too much about bleeding out of the lines as long as your pencil color stays within! I used a tiny #10 brush.

IMG_7138

Here are my finished ornaments. A sentiment was stamped on the back of the snowmen ones. Don’t forget to also sign and date!  I also added some “snowflake” dots with a white paint pen. To finish them, I added a small wood bead to the top of the twine (use a 9″ piece).

IMG_7146

I wanted the nativities to be more rustic, so I only spotlighted the star and manger by coloring with shades of brown.

Inktense colors- Beech Green, Cherry, Chilli Red, Carmine Pink (cheeks), Neutral Gray, Sienna Gold, Saddle Brown, Amber, Tan.

haunted mansion PopCard

Hello friends!  The current Ai Challenge is “Third Dimension” and we are featuring the new Art Impressions PopCards! Here I used 4944- Haunted Mansion PopCard and the 4862- PopCard Template.

haunted mansion PopCard 1 diane zechman

I found some cute papers in my stash to go with the images and die cut a circle window in the front. After you make one of the PopCards to see how they are put together, they are pretty easy to create. When you open the card, the mansion pops up to be 3-D!

I’m not sure who’s idea it was (I think it was Kate’s) to cut the template from acetate but it works great! Plus, it is clear so you don’t see it from the side!

Old Bat wine tag

Hello friends and happy Monday!

Today I am on the Art Impressions blog with a project using one of my favorite Ai sets- 4784- Old Bat Set.  If you like cute Halloween images, this set is a must-have!  Here I used it to make a decorative gift tag on a bottle of wine for a friend.  (Did you also see Renee’s tag and wine cork pumpkin that she posted earlier?)

old bat wine tag 2 diane zechman

I am planning to surprise my friend who loves Halloween with this…she is always doing things for others so I think a little RAK is in order. :)

old bat wine tag 1 diane zechman

I started with a 2 1/4 x 7 3/4 piece of cardstock and scored it @ 2 1/4. The top corners were punched with a corner rounder after punching a 1 3/8″ hole in the center.  I colored her with Copics and popped her & the sentiment on foam dimensionals. I saved the circle that was punched from the top and used it to “spotlight” the glass in her hand.

I haven’t tried the wine yet, but I’ve heard it was good. At least it has a cute label!  lol.

Skeleton Wiggle Wobble (he glows!)

Hello friends and happy Monday!

Today I am CASE-ing my DT friend, Renee, on the Art Impressions blog with a card using the Ai 4952- Skeleton Wiggle Wobble set.  (She shared her card last week)  The sentiment on the front of my card is from the Michael’s exclusive SC0680- Spare Me clear set.

Renee had the brilliant idea to create a spider web window on her card and I loved it so much that I wanted to re-create it on a card for my friend who has an October birthday and LOVES Halloween.  After seeing Renee’s card, I couldn’t even think of making mine any other way! lol.  It’s perfect!

skeleton WW 1 diane zechman

I changed mine up a bit by making a different shaped window and adding a punched creepy fence to the front. I used the same cute mice punch but brought that to the front as well.

On the inside, the wobbly skeleton was assembled with mini brads and he is made EXTRA wobbly by adhering him to the card with a Mini Action Wobble.  I opted to skip his hat & bow tie this time.

skeleton WW 2 diane zechman

Since I used a black card base and a dark patterned paper inside, it is difficult to sign the card.  My solution was to use the leftover pieces I die cut from the front window to adhere on the back for my message and signature.

skeleton WW 3 diane zechman

Now, I didn’t give him a hat & bow tie for a reason….he GLOWS IN THE DARK!!!  So I didn’t want to cover up part of his head.  After I assembled all his parts with the mini brads, I used an old bottle of Glow-in-the-Dark fabric paint I had in my stash (for many moons!)  Mine was a pale yellow color which I didn’t see while searching but I did find the same brand with a Natural color which I’ve linked below.  I’m guessing the natural color would be better anyway!  Oh, and I didn’t forget the eyes in the little bat & spider die cuts….they glow too!

Here’s a quick little video to see the action!

I want to thank Renee for letting me CASE her card!  I enjoyed making this for my friend.  Have a great Monday and… happy stamping!

Magical Christmas MTF

Hello friends!  The current Ai Challenge is “Stamp a Scene” and we are featuring the new Art Impressions Mini TryFolds! Here I used 4930- Magical Christmas MTF.  These sets include matching dies to cut the openings so you can peek through to the inside.

Magical Christmas MTF 2 diane zechman

Here’s the card completely closed. One die cuts the door so it can be opened (as shown above).  Another cuts the wreath which I’ve mounted with foam dots.

When you open the first fold, you see the fireplace. The third die cuts the opening in the fireplace.  Look who’s peeking through!

Here both sides are open to see the final image inside. I decided to add my sentiment there as well.

goofy things

Hello friends and happy Monday!

Today I am on the Art Impressions blog with a card using a few “oldies but goodies” Ai stamps… 1933- Lillie, 1266- Falling Leaves, and 2637- Goofy Things. I’ve had this card in mind for a while and wanted to create it last fall but time slipped away so I was sure to make it this year!

Who can resist jumping in a pile of leaves?

To make it even more fun, I adhered Lillie with a Mini Action Wobble!  Her skirt was paper pieced with a scrap from Echo Park’s – The Story of Fall pad.
