snowy note cube

Hello friends!  It’s time for another Challenge Chicks Challenge!

We’re a small group of friends who post a new challenge on the second Sunday of each month…no stress, no deadlines…just for fun.  And we’d love to have you join us!  This month it is Bev’s turn and her challenge is “Snowy, Frosty, or Glitzy!”  Sound fun?

Remember when stamping on the blank note cubes was popular?  How many of you still have some in a closet somewhere?  (raising my hand too!)  I recently got one out and realized once again that it is a fun project to do.  Here I stamped an old SU! snowman set, Flaky Friends, and colored with markers.

The online store where we used to order the blank note cubes is no longer in business.  We may need to find a new source for these!  😉

Please join us and create a card or project… then share it on our Facebook page!  Also, you can upload it to the Splitcoast gallery…and use the keyword CHXJAN16.  Now be sure to click on the links below to check out what the other Chicks created!

Happy stamping!

one to brag

Hello friends and happy Thursday!

Today I am on the Art Impressions blog with a fun project I made for a local stamping event.  We had a “sweet” theme and I thought this little cake box fit the bill!  I used one of the new Ai People from the last CHA release, this one is the One To Brag Set (4668).

I colored her and paper pieced her clothing, then used some matching papers to make a flower for atop the cake slice.  After adhering ruffled ribbon on the sides, I attached her with foam tape.  A paper bow decorates the back and some die cuts and tiny rhinestones finish the top.

3D projects can be so fun to create!  You can fill the box with sweets & goodies and deliver a smile.  🙂

Have a great day and… happy stamping!

granola gifts

I have really been enjoying a home made granola recipe that my friend Michele G. from Canada shared with me.  I’ve made a few batches and shared some granola…I hope the recipients like it as much as I do!  My most recent granola gift was placed in a recycled jar, with a decorated lid and stamped tag.

The jars were washed and the labels were removed.  Bottle brush trees (from The Craft Shack) and figures from Walmart were glued to the lid with E6000 and left to dry overnight.  Then I added Aleene’s True Snow and let it dry again. I added the felt ribbon with Scor-Tape.  The stamps on the tag are a retired Sweet ‘n Sassy set.

I also gave a gift with some granola previously in a small mason jar.  This time I stamped a topper for the lid with the SU! Painted Petals set and added a matching tag to the gift bag.

sleigh favor box

Every month my friends and I get together for dinner to celebrate those with birthdays in that month… and since we are all stampers, we shower the birthday gals with hand made cards!  Since we don’t have any December birthdays, we still get together for dinner and have a holiday gift exchange.  If we have our Christmas cards done, we bring those too!  This year instead of a card I die cut a Sizzix sleigh favor box for everyone and had a few goodies to fill them.

Unfortunately, I waited till the last minute to make them and only got them 95% done.  lol.  My friends only had to glue the sides to the middle section and add the pre-made flower.  Hopefully the goodies made up for the incomplete gift!  lol.  😉

Maybe next year I’ll have time to die cut the reindeer that goes with it.  hee hee.  Why do we wait till the last minute??

Have a great day!

a helping hand

Hello friends!  It’s time for another Challenge Chicks Challenge!

We’re a small group of friends who post a new challenge on the second Sunday of each month…no stress, no deadlines…just for fun.  And we’d love to have you join us!  This month it is Kelly’s turn and her challenge is “Wrap it Up…Make a tag that coordinates with your gift wrap“.

Here’s my tag… the words were typed on the computer.

My tag is a super simple one and my “gift wrap” is actually the oven mitt itself!  I work in an elementary school and this was a gift for someone who helped in our classroom.  All the kids wrote their names on the oven mitt with a Sharpie and then the mitt became the “wrapping” as it was filled with some treats.  🙂

His peace journal

Just popping in with a super quick journal I decorated.  I used the Sweet ‘n Sassy sets called Wildflowers and His Peace.

This was reaaallly a quick project…I had about 20 minutes to make it.  LOL.  I started with a pre-purchased journal and picked out the sentiment I wanted to use.  Then I found a pretty flower image to stamp as a background.  Since I was short on time, I turned to my MFT Die-Namics Blueprints 14 for the layout.

I snapped a quick pic and sent it on it’s way.  Later I realized that I forgot to add some pearls or bling!  ugh.

I am sharing this project and 2 others on the Sweet ‘n Sassy blog today!

Have a great day!

cupcake name frame

Hello friends and happy Thursday!

Today I have a project other than a card to share.  I made a little 5×7 name frame with the Ai Cupcake BFFs set (4409).  (Click on photo for larger view.)

A friend introduced the idea of making name frames to me back in 2008 and I’ve made several for gifts since then, usually getting a request for themes and colors.  My daughter wanted one when she went to college…and then wanted some for her roommates too…lol.  So this is for my neice who is heading off to college…I thought she might like one for her dorm room too.  She likes to make cupcakes and does a wonderful job.  So I incorporated that theme with the colors in her décor.

Here’s a closer view of Ai’s Cupcake BFFs gal, without the glare on the glass in the frame.

I used a brick wall embossing folder to create the floor and embossed the top with a cupcake folder.  The letters are from an old Cuttlebug die set.  I think you will find that these frames come together rather easily and are fun to make (and give!).  I hope you try one!

Happy stamping!

Snack Size Hershey’s Pouch

Hello friends!

The current Ai Challenge is “In With The New” (use your newest stamp) and I am sharing a project I made with one of the NEW Ai stamps in your local AC Moore store called Bigger Cake (PS0920). This lady’s smile is infectious…and don’t you love that cake??

bigger cake 1a diane zechman

Instead of a card I made a little Snack Size Hershey’s Pouch.  How fun would this be to give to a friend?  It’s super easy to make…let’s get started!

First, start with a 3 1/2 x 7 5/8 inch piece of cardstock.  Score the length @ 1/2, 3 3/4, and 4 inches.  Then cut or punch an opening (on the end with the first 1/2″ score mark) to slip the candy in when finished.  (I kept my opening to the left but you can center it.)  See photo below.

Add patterned papers or emboss… however you want to decorate it.

bigger cake 1c diane zechman

Fold and adhere the 1/2″ scored section at the top with strong tape.  Add your image and sentiment.  I colored her with Copics and fussy cut her out.  To finish, I added a tiny bow.

Slip in some chocolate, a pack of gum, or whatever fits!

Now it’s your turn to make a card or project with your newest stamps and join us in the In With The New Challenge!

Wine Divas card and wine glass charm

Hello friends and happy Thursday!

Have you checked out the Ai stamp sets in your local Michael’s store?  Today I used the Wine Divas to create a card and a few wine glass charms.

wine diva card & wine glass charm 1 diane zechman

I made my card base a little narrower than usual (3 3/4″ wide) so my blue panel could hang over the edge a bit, then punched a half circle and tied some ribbon around it.

wine diva card & wine glass charm 2 diane zechman

This diva’s dress and chair were paper pieced and she has an orange rhinestone in her hair.

To make the wine charms, I first die cut a few ovals from Shrinky Dink Rough & Ready shrink plastic.  Then I stamped the image with Stazon Black ink and colored with regular colored pencils (Crayola work fine).   I apologize for the quality of this pic… my camera was on the wrong setting!

The charms were heated & shrunk in my toaster oven.  Be sure to punch the hole at the top before shrinking!  For info & tips on using shrink plastic, see this post on my blog.

I added a jump ring to my charms and strung them on a Beverage ID hoop with some beads.  Then bend the end of the wire hoop with pliers to keep the beads on and hook it through the loop on the other end.

flower block basket

Hello!  Today I am sharing something other than a card on the Sweet ‘n Sassy blog.  I like to make 3-D projects also and this time I made a little basket of treats to cheer up a friend going through treatments for cancer.  Leaving a basket of goodies hopefully let her know that I am thinking of her even after my visit.

I used the Sweet ‘n Sassy Mini Flower Blocks 1 stamp set to make my flower on the front.

My friend said it was her “little ray of sunshine”.  🙂  I am good about making cards but not always so good at sending them.  lol.  But I would encourage you to lift someone up with a card or small gift such as this… it sure lifted my spirits too!  ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Matthew 25:40
