Monthly Archives: February 2013

February Christmas cards

I’ve been so busy lately but I haven’t forgotten to get my Christmas cards done for the monthly DD challenge.  Today’s the last day of the month and I made it…whew!  I actually got this done a few days ago…just finally getting to upload.

This month Stacey challenged us to CASE someone and I chose this clean & simple card by my friend, Valerie Stangle.  I loved her layout!  Here’s my version.

I struggled with the tree.  I was trying to stamp and die cut some trees but each color of ink I tried just didn’t match the paper.  So I just cut some trees from the paper itself.  Perfect match!  🙂

stamps- Paper Smooches- Alphadot; paper- Riding Hood Red, My Mind’s Eye- Be Merry; ink- Cherry Cobbler; accessories- SU! Tag Corner punch, hole punch, baker’s twine, dimensionals.

wildflowers

We have a 2 hour delay here today so I’m popping in quick with a card for the sketch challenge on SCS.

And a close up…

I am so anxious for the sun and flowers and the smell of spring!  As I was cooking dinner last night, I did think of one thing that I will miss though…all the homemade soups I love to make in the cold winter months.  I do love the snow too…just not the cold.  Is there anything that you will miss?

Have a wonderful day!

springtime blessings

This is my second post for today…scroll down for my Flying Butterflies card.

Today is my last post as guest designer for Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps.  I made another card using the sparrows from this month’s release.

I am really loving the yellow and gray combination lately and it goes so well with the birds and flowers!

Have a beautiful day!

flying butterflies

The Scor-Pal team is featuring projects from the Scor-Pal site and I chose to make the Flying Butterfly Pop Up card.  I changed it up a bit, so I also took a few pics along the way.  Here’s my card from the front.  You can see the punched butterflies peeking through the window…

When you open the card, the butterflies are “flying”…

And here’s a view from the top so you can see how the butterflies are hung.  Instead of using ribbon as in the tutorial, I attached them with a light fishing line.

I used some Momenta papers from the Kaleidoscope collection and an SU! Soft Sky cardstock base.  I thought it would be fun to have an actual window in the front of the card.  First I diecut 2 windows with a QuicKutz die (one for the card front and another for the inside).  Then lay one window diecut onto your card front and trace the opening or window panes.  These will be your guidelines for cutting an opening.  Using a metal ruler, Scor-Mat, and craft knife, cut slightly outside of the traced lines.

Next attach your patterned paper layer (if you have one) to the front of the card and turn it over.  From the inside, cut away the middle of the layer using your previous cut as a guide.

Attach the 2 window diecuts to the front & inside with 1/8″ Scor-Tape, sandwiching a piece of acetate between them.

For the inside, I used a 3/4″ x 8 1/2″ strip of paper and punched one edge for the grass.  Then I cut two 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ pieces for the top and scored/taped as directed.  I used 2 punch-outs for each butterfly, attaching the fishing line between them with Scor-Tape.

Finish as desired.  I added a valance to the window and stamped sentiments & flowers.  To finish it off, I used a tracing wheel and Stickles.

Here’s the inside again…

caught a bug?

There’s been a lot of “the bug” going around this year.  I’m thankful I escaped it so far (knocking on wood!)  Several of my friends caught it though and I really could have used this card…I guess I’ll be ready for next year!

I was playing around again with one of my old Cookie Crumbs sets…this one is also from the Get Well Critters.  Here’s a close up…

Gosh, I still love that set!  Happy Sunday!  Have a great start to the week!

so grateful

This past weekend I had a Stampin’ Up! workshop.  A good friend is our SU! demonstrator and along with her project, I usually come up with a few of my own for my friends to make.  One of them was this Stand Up card using lots of the merchandise that’s free right now in the SAB flier.

I have lots to be grateful for!

Today I am playing along with the SCS sketch challenge.  I just looove the new Sweet ‘n Sassy set called Springtime Babies and was anxious to ink up a bunny!

Hop on over and join in…it’s a fun, simple sketch.

Jesus paid

Good morning! I am back on the SNSS blog today as guest designer with a card using the Jesus Paid It All stamp set and it’s coordinating Calvary die.  I thought these fun yellow and gray prints would be perfect to use on a starburst card.

I cut my own pattern and traced the pieces onto patterned paper. Then they were cut out and pieced together. A side view shows the Calvary diecut popped up with dimensionals.

Have a wonderful day!

kindness is…

The Sweet ‘n Sassy site has their Friday Feature stamp set on sale now and this month it’s the Kindness set.  I love these stamps because they have coordinating dies to go with them.

This card is a CASE of this one by Darleen Adamo.  I happened across it on Pinterest, I believe.  (And she is so pin-worthy!)
