Plane & Simple

This past Saturday I attended another shoebox gathering with friends.  I love to join in on these…they’re always a fun day!  Today I’ll share my shoebox project and I’ll be back later with my other swaps.

As soon as I saw this new SU! set called Plane & Simple I knew I’d have to get it…it is great for several guys in my family, including DH who flies RC planes.  But masculine cards can be tough for a lot of us to do.  I guess they just aren’t as “fun” to make without all the pretty colors and fru-fru.  But they are fun to try techniques with…here I made another acetate card. 

The border was stamped on the acetate with Stazon ink.  You just need to be careful when stamping on acetate because it can be a bit slippy.  But don’t worry if you get a smudge…it will wipe right off with a little Stazon cleaner.

You can’t tell from the photo, but I applied some Crystal Effects to the lens of the goggles.  It looks kinda cool IRL.

Here’s a photo from the side so you can see which layers are on the front and which are on the back.  The acetate gets “sandwiched” between the layers to hide your adhesive.  I used the Mono tape runner…it sticks real well to the acetate.

I had a few questions about where I purchased my acetate.  I have found that 10 mil is a nice heavy weight for a card base.  SU! does carry it and I’ve purchased some nice 10 mil sheets at Hobby Lobby.  The only problem was the large size of the sheets I had to buy at HL…they were a pain to cut down!  The acetate that I used on this project was purchased at a great price here.  I think I ordered for a friend also to get the free shipping.  The only thing I didn’t like was that it has a slight blue-ish tint to it but it is only really noticable  if you have a few pieces stacked together.
