sunflowers & blog candy!

These sunflowers just make me smile! As I was finishing this card, it just needed a little something. The main image was too bare. After I added the button & partial circle I realized that I was inspired by this card of Anna’s that I saw earlier! The button filled in the bare spot just right.
Now…about the cookie crumbs (blog candy)……I have an extra Posies For You set to give away! :)
If you would like a chance to receive Anna’s first unmounted set, Posies For You, then all you need to do is comment on this post and tell me which of Anna’s stamps is your favorite! I will hold this open until Saturday and on Sunday I will use the random number generator to pick a winner. Don’t forget to add your name. I won’t be able to choose an anonymous post! ;)

birthday cupcake

Published by diane (cookiestamper) under cards, etc.

I took a few minutes break from working on my projects for an upcoming gathering to make a few birthday cards. I needed 2 quick cards for a party for two teens the next day and I was requested to use my Big Bold Birthday cupcake stamp. Nothing like waiting till the last minute! Holly (aka Toy) posted a sketch on her blog and I decided to use that as my inspiration.

more posies for you!

This is just a darling set! I am having so much fun with it! For this card I stamped another one of Anna’s flowers 3 times after masking the bucket. I know, I know… the colors probably aren’t what they are supposed to be! Ha ha. But aren’t they so pretty in tones of yellow & orange? :) I was also having fun with my watercolor crayons again!
The butterfly was stamped twice on the background and I outlined them with a glitter pen. I also used the glitter on the handle of the bucket. The top edge of the designer paper was folded down to let the back side show. I thought the pink was a nice contrast between the Saffron and the stripes. It was so easy to get a perfect fold with the Scor-Pal! I don’t always mention it, but I love it & use it all the time! The bottom edge of the striped paper was punched with the Cornice Edge punch by Martha Stewart.
If you like Anna’s new set as much as I do, keep an eye on my blog. Next week I will have some cookie crumbs (blog candy) to give away. ;) And don’t forget to pop on over to Leigh’s blog now. She has some sets that she is giving away!

friendship blooms

Published by diane (cookiestamper) under cards, etc.

Today’s card is actually just a card front that I made for an up-coming swap. This turned out very simple but it was really a challenge for me! I love the SU! Groovy Guava color but didn’t realize I would have such a hard time putting other colors together with it! I ended up moving my layers around and adding a Rose Red strip to finally get a look I was happy with. Needless to say, I am glad they are completed! This stamp set is one of the Stampin’ Up! Sale-A-Bration sets that will be available starting in February. I used a variety of punches on this card and the large flower is popped up on dimensionals.

some fun news!

I am very excited and honored to have been asked to design with Anna Wight’s first stamp set for Whipper Snapper Designs! You probably know that I am a big fan of Anna’s artwork! Anna’s new stamp set is unmounted, made of red rubber with smart cushion cling mount. They are so easy to use and store in the CD case that they arrive in. :) Anna has been working very hard on this and her first set is AWESOME! I just love it! Here is my first card with Anna’s new Posies For You set. It includes the bucket, a butterfly, two word stamps and 8 different flower images! It’s a very fun set!

annas-posies-1-dmz.jpg

I pulled out my long neglected Lyra watercolor crayons to color the image. It was fun and a bit refreshing to color with a different medium for a change. I need to pull them out more often! The butterfly was stamped onto the bucket and also onto the Lavendar Lace card base. Then it was stamped a third time onto the background paper, cut and layered onto the image on the card base. I stamped and cut out a second bucket to pop up over the first one for dimension. The words were stamped repeatedly onto the yellow twill with SU! Basic Black ink. It was so easy to align the words on the twill with the unmounted image! To finish it off, I added some paper piercing and outlined the butterflies with glitter.

Here’s a list of the other designers. Click on their name to see more creations with Anna’s new stamp set!

Leigh O’Brien
Tracy Harp
Jeanne Streiff
Cheryl Rowley
and of course, Anna!

January DD/DDA challenge

The Splitcoaststampers Dirty Dozen and Dirty Dozen Alumni were challenged again by Jami! For January’s challenge, we were given the following rules:
Challenge Focus: Girls Young and Old,
Required Element: Something *SWEET*, and
Restricted Element: NO standard A-2 cards (4.25 x 5.5).
You can click here to see all of the cards uploaded for this challenge.

I immediately knew that I wanted to use one of the girls on the Inky Antics Hobby Girls cube. I love these images and don’t pull them out to use often enough! Then I thought it might be fun to make my card a flowerpot shape since the girl I chose was holding flowers. I thought I had a pattern for a flowerpot but after searching and not finding one in my patterns, I quickly created one of my own. Directions for how I made it are below. After I cut the flowerpot card out, I masked the top and sponged with ink to create the look I needed for the top of the pot. Then I realized that the new SU! Blooms & Bulbs wheel would fit perfectly in the area I sponged at the top. :) Next I lightly wheeled the Rough Texture wheel over the base of the pot for a bit of added texture. The flower was stamped twice and layered from the SAB set So Many Scallops for my “something sweet”. The Many Thanks words are from another SAB set, Lots Of Thoughts.

flowerpot-girl-dmz.jpg

To make the flowerpot template, start with a 4 1/4″ tall x 5 1/2″ wide piece of cardstock.
Measure 1″ down from the top and 1/2″ in from each side to create the top of the pot. Mark those points. Draw a line on the 1/2″ measurement for cutting.
Next, measure 1″ in from each side at the bottom and mark those points. Draw a line down both sides from the top points to the bottom points. This is the line you will cut to make the sides of the pot.
Use a corner rounder on the top corners.
Now place the top of the pot on the fold of your cardstock. Trace & cut out your card. Very easy!

stamps- Inky Antics Hobby Girls cube, Rough Texture wheel, Blooms & Bulbs wheel, So Many Scallops (SAB set), Lots Of Thoughts (SAB set)
paper- Vanilla, Non-SU!
ink- Rust, Caramel, Rose Red, Summer Sun, Not Quite Navy, Olive, Bashful, Choc. Chip
accessories- Scallop punch, circle punch, twill tape, button, pop dots, sponge

a crisp fall day

Published by diane (cookiestamper) under scrapbooking

I am branching out of my comfort zone here. The only scrapbooking I’ve done is about 5 pages, a few 6×6 recipe pages, and 2 layouts that were made at the SU! regionals I attended. I really never thought that I’d be interested in scrapbooking but I learned a long time ago to “never say never”. ;) A few years ago I had a wonderful secret sister who put so much thought into her gift and made me a 6×6 album of pages that were stamped and ready for pictures to be added. I’ll never forget how surprised I was at this thoughtful gift! It is one to cherish! Well, this was the time I would have to say that piqued my interest in scrapbooking.
So now, I am participating in a 2 page 6×6 swap with some friends. I was assigned the theme of “fall” and here’s what I made to swap. I needed to make 22 of these so I hope there won’t be 21 disappointed ladies! LOL. The little acorn was stamped “second generation” to make it lighter. (It was stamped on scrap paper once and then onto the circle without re-inking) I thought it would be nice to write the date that the photo was taken on top of the acorn. And after piercing all of the holes, I still had it in my mind that I wanted some stitches in certain areas so I drug out the sewing machine for a few more accents. I need to move on now to some other projects but if you have any scrapbooking advice, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

coaster calendar project

Yesterday a few ladies came over to make a chipboard coaster calendar. This is such a fun project and a great way to use the Bind-It-All! :) Some of the pages were cased or semi-cased from my friends Kari (norway76) & Gayla (snowcountry311) who so generously prepared these calendars for everyone to make at our last gathering! Wasn’t that sweet? The rest of the pages were planned out by my friend Linda and I according to the supplies we had. We tried to keep them simple since it is an involved project. It took 4 hours to complete them but the ladies had a lot of fun! I didn’t take a pic of the calendar bound, but here are the pages before binding. The first pic has one side of the coasters and the other side is in the second pic. I think I am going to like the Bind-It-All….what a fun tool! I purchased it here from Eclectic Paperie. The calendar months were printed on the computer. “Zviling” very nicely shared the file on SCS and it can be found here.

Happy Heart ATC

Published by diane (cookiestamper) under ATC's

Here’s one of some ATC’s I made with the new Happy Heart set. I made a mini pocket card with the sentiment on an insert that pulls out. The front was folded down for a flap and the bottom edge was cut with the Fiskars scallop edge scissors. The Scor-Pal was a great tool to help make the folds! This is a cute set and I like how it’s not limited to Valentine’s Day!
