spooky wiper card

This is a fun little pop-up card to make. I had seen one quite some time ago and recently I received one in a swap. I decided to try it out on a Halloween card. When I was planning to upload it, I didn’t know the name of this type of card so I did a little searching and found out that some people call it a wiper card. I thought it used to have a different name, but I could be mistaken. I also don’t have any idea where it originated from, but somewhere along the line JanTink did a tutorial which can be found on her blog. I would post a link but her blog will not come up for me right now. You can go to my blogroll on the left and click on her name to find her site with the tutorial. Basically how this card is interactive is….when you pull on both sides, the little ghost pops up. They are very cute!

Halloween treats

The past few years I have enjoyed making Halloween treats and cards much more than I have in the past. Maybe it’s because there are so many cute images to work with. I loved the Batty jumbo wheel when I saw it but hesitated for a long time because the words are too long to fit them onto an A2 card. But eventually I ordered it and I’m glad I did! I thought it would be great for decorating bags but I realized a few days ago that it is the perfect length to make a pouch for some Halloween pencils! :) I was also anxious to try a trick we learned at regionals. After inking the wheel with the Pumpkin ink, you can ink another image (they used one of the faces from Carved & Candlelit) with black ink and repeatedly kiss the stamp to the wheel before rolling it onto your cardstock. It makes a very cool effect.
To make the pouch, just cut the black cardstock to 8 x 5 1/2. Then score it lengthwise @ 2 1/2 and 5. Fold and use red-line to hold it together. Then I punched part of the oval punch in the opening.

I also stamped some cardstock and covered a Jr. Mint box, much like covering the giant Hershey bars. I have always liked the Sweeter Treaters set and was able to purchase a used set recently. I love those images! And I had to apply black Stickles to the witch hat. ;)

Sliding Pop-Up card

I made one of these pop-up cards several years ago but it was smaller and slightly different. I changed the measurements last night so that it is more like a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch card when it is flat and therefore it will fit nicely in an A2 envelope. I also changed the side folds so it is more “box-like” when open. Here is a pic of the card in the closed position:

and this is what it looks like when it is open: :)

slider-pop-up-3-dmz.jpg

I did not take “step by step” photos as I made it, but I will try to give you instructions on how to make it and you can see the side view below to help you understand how it goes together.

Start with:
1 piece of 4 1/4 X 10 cardstock (I used Certainly Celery)
and 1 piece of 3 x 5 cardstock (I used White)

1. Score the Celery cardstock at 1/2, 2 1/2, 3, 5, 7, 7 1/2, and 9 1/2.

2. With your paper trimmer or a craft knife, cut along the center (5 in.) score line from the 1/2 inch to the 3 3/4 inch measurements. *(You will leave 1/2 inch UNCUT on both sides of the slit).

3. Mountain fold all scored lines.

4. Stamp your image on the 3 x 5 piece of cardstock and color if needed.

5. Insert the 3 x 5 piece of cardstock through the slit you cut in the center.

6. Sandwich the bottom of the 3 x 5 piece between the 2 bottom (1/2 inch) scored & folded ends. Attach the 3 x 5 piece to the 1/2 inch folded ends with strong adhesive.

7. Decorate as desired. (I used the Cuttlebug embossing folder before assembling.)

Here is the side view showing how it is assembled:

stamps- Unfrogettable, Daisy Field Wheel, heart- Big Bold Birthday
paper- Celery, White
ink- Celery, Olive, Black, Summer, Cocoa, Real Red, NQNavy, Caramel

Have fun with it and let me know if you like it!

cased gel card

It’s not very often that I completely case someone else’s card but this card just needed to be cased. :) This gel card was originally designed by my friend Linda and I thought it was so cute! You can see her card here. I only made a few small changes to use current SU! products that I have. If you haven’t tried a gel card, you should make one….they are fun to squeeze. LOL. I stamped the Sanded background with Olive ink onto yellow CD sleeves and cut the green frame with the Coluzzle circle using the 6th and 8th (largest) cutting lines. The boat was stamped and watercolored on a piece of white cardstock. Then I squeezed a *small* amount of hair gel inside a reclosable baggie and sealed it shut. The top of the baggie hangs over the top of the white cardstock and is taped to the back side. Then you insert the baggie/cardstock layers into the CD sleeve. Be careful, though….they are addicting. ;) Oh, the reclosable bags we used are 4X6 and can be found at Walmart in the craft section by the beads.

killer blueberry muffins

yum! I don’t remember who shared this recipe but they sure are good muffins! This is for a recipe swap I’m in. I was anxious to try using the Wanted and Bronc Buster sets to go along with the name of the muffins. The muffin was made by stamping the top of the cupcake from the Big Bold Birthday set with Caramel ink. Then I used the dots from the same set in blue. The base of the cupcake has words printed on it and I knew that wouldn’t work for this design…..so I used my large tag punch to punch out the bottoms. I could have just cut some squares but the shape of the tag fits under the curve of the frosting and gives a nice place to attach them together. Next I ran the bottoms through my paper crimper and swiped them across my Bashful inkpad to highlight the ridges. The green layer on the left was stamped “one sheet wonder” style and cut into strips.

true friend notepad & pen

I picked up a bunch of these notepads and matching pens (last year…I think) in the back-to-school supplies. They are great for altering. The clear plastic cover already has the colored circles printed on it, so it is ready to be stamped with a design using Stazon ink. It is so quick and easy! I spent more time trying to find the spring that flew out of the pen and put the pen back together than I did stamping…LOL!
The barrel of the pen was removed and I stamped a matching design on the inside piece. I remembered having a difficult time stamping on the round surface when I made some a few months ago. At the time, I had to use the Stazon cleaner to remove the ink and it took several tries to get satisfactory results. This time a light bulb went off and I laid the stamp down with the inked rubber facing up. Then I just rolled the barrel piece across the stamp. Wow- so much easier and it looked great on the first try!
I also punched some holes and inserted a few eyelets and a big yellow brad in the center of the silk flower. I hope the recipient likes it!

baby file folder card & bag

I was invited to a baby shower this weekend and I wanted to make a gift but ran out of time. I did, however, make another one of Beate’s file folder cards and I decorated a white gift bag to match. These were inspired by a set of little boxes I purchased that will hold the ID bracelet, a lock of hair and the first tooth. The boxes have a giraffe on them that looks almost identical to the one from the Wild About You set. So I went with the yellow / green / orange color combo on the boxes to design the card & bag. I never would have put the orange in there if it weren’t for the inspirational boxes but I liked the orange a lot when I was done! The scalloped edges were made with the corner rounder (with the guard removed).

enjoy every moment

I love this set! It makes you happy just looking at it. ;) This set will be available in the new catalog that comes out in January. It was a regionals promo and I couldn’t wait to cut it out and make something! So here is my first attempt. I also have been wanting to try Beate’s file folder card and use the Apple Cider paper which I finally ordered. I really like how it turned out.
Have a great weekend….enjoy the fall weather that is finally here. :)

Fabulous Flowers gum holder

Recently I received a gum holder in a swap and I knew right away I wanted to try one! I started out designing this for a swap coming up but it was just taking too much time to complete with all the embossing, sponging, cutting, etc. So I made one with a Christmas design instead and I will share that one another time. I started with a piece of 3 1/2 x 9 3/4 cardstock which was scored at 2 1/4, 2 1/2, 6 and 6 1/4. I wheeled the inside with the Leaves Awash Jumbo wheel and folded it on the score lines. (The short side becomes the top flap.) The bottom was punched with the Word Window punch inserted as far as it will go. Next it is folded and attached near the edge (above the opening) with red liner tape. This creates a cute pocket to slip a pack of gum into.
The flower was stamped and heat embossed 3 times onto glossy cardstock. I sponged each one with Rose Red and Pumpkin inks and buffed them with a tissue. The flowers were then cut out and layered with dimensionals. A copper brad was placed in the center and it was mounted over a piece of ribbon. These are so easy to make and can be decorated for any season or occasion.
