one for Monday…

I made one quick card for Today’s challenges. This week is super busy so I may not have time for any more. It has been lots of fun, though, and tomorrow is the last day so check it out over at SCS if you can!

This card was made for Jeanne’s sketch and Michele’s challenge. It came together rather quickly, but I had to shift the center panel a bit to fit the butterfly on and the ribbon was added because the top right corner was pretty empty after that! I punched the slot punch a few times to get the hole wide enough for the ribbon. The flower was an image that was stamped repeatedly when a neighbor friend was visiting one day. I think it is by Hero Arts. I watercolored it with Twinkling H2O’s which I haven’t used for a while. They are so pretty…I need to use them more often! To see the shimmer I needed to lay it down to photograph it but the shimmer still didn’t show up very well in the pic. The bugs were stamped on shimmery paper and are on pop dots. When it was all said & done, I rather liked the blue/yellow/coral color combination.

one Sunday card…

I don’t have time to participate in any more of today’s challenges, but I hope to do some catching up later! The challenges are a great starting point for your cards and help you to try new things! I was assigned to make a sample for Trudee’s challenge and this is what I came up with. I really wanted to stamp the background, etc. but the inspiration piece has such great clean lines that I also wanted to keep it simple. If you are a fan club member, you can view Trudee’s inspiration piece here. She used a photo from a paint sample booklet. I used wave scissors to mimmick the top of the curtains and brads where the words are at the top. I wanted to use circles (from the plates) but decided on ovals instead. The image was watercolored with a water brush, pulling the ink from the lids of the inkpads. I used the water brush and the Bashful ink to also watercolor the edges of the main image. I hope you like it. Take a look around you….inspiration can be found in the most un-expected places! Look at the colors and patterns in clothing, the way words and pictures are layed out in advertisements, food packaging, magazines, etc.

Saturday challenge cards

Wow…it’s been a busy summer Saturday! I haven’t had a chance to upload my cards for today’s challenges until now and it’s getting late! Where did the day go?

This first card I actually made a few months ago and never got around to uploading on SCS. So I knew when I decided to do a sketch challenge what my design would be! :) If you are a fan-clubber, then you can view my sketch challenge as well as the other challenges for today here.

On this card, I reversed one of the girls by stamping her on clear acetate, flipping it over and stamping her again (overlapping the flowers). Stazon ink works great on acetate. I colored them with Sharpie markers and paper pieced the dress on one girl. You need to color with the Sharpies carefully, trying to avoid the Stazon ink because the Sharpie markers will draw the black into the color. To paper piece the dress, just stamp the image again on the patterned paper, cut the dress out & attach it to the girl. Then I layered the acetate over a piece of white cs. The flower brads hold it together so there’s no need for adhesive on the acetate.  Here’s the card:

Edit a year later….here’s my sketch for this card.   If you upload a card using this sketch on SCS, please use the keyword  DTGDcookiestamper and link back here.

shhhh………don’t tell Sherry, but I cheated on her challenge! LOL. I had the main image laying around unfinished from a stamping session with a friend. I used a slightly different method but I got the same results as Sherry’s challenge instructions, so I thought I’d share it anyway.
I stamped the motif in Orange and applied Crackle Accents dimensional glue. It made the color bleed out and also changed it to a Pumpkin color. I got the dimensional glue from an LSS, but I’m sure if you google it you should be able to find it.
The swirls were embossed with a pretty EP that came from Sparkle & Sprinkle. I love Margaret’s embossing powders!
The punched frame idea came from Cami’s blog- here.

Jen’s challenge was perfect timing….I was given some samples of bright colored cardstock to design a card for some ladies at our church to make. I doubt they ever stamped before, so I needed to keep it fairly simple. I think we will use colored pencils on the image and I will give them the option to add the extra pen-stitching and doodling. Using the bold, bright colors is a bit out of my comfort zone but it sure makes a cheery card! I need to try them more often!

fun Friday!

Here are today’s cards. For the first one I combined 3 challenges to make it! The challenges were posted by cwilliams, Cambria and JuliaS. I also got to use my first new set from the catty- Garden Whimsy. I love it in pink! :)

I used a piece of clear acetate for one of the layers in the sketch. I stamped it with Brilliance White and lightly heat set it. Then I used a tiny bit of mono-adhesive where it will be hidden under the main image. This held it in place while I stitched the strip of designer paper over top with my sewing machine.

stamps- Garden Whimsy
cs- Pretty in Pink, Regal Rose, white, Tickles dp
ink- Brilliance White, Regal, Pretty in Pink, Black, Celery
access- acetate, circle punches, sewing machine, pop dots

The second pic here is for Jami’s challenge. The first card is a semi-case of LodiChick that I made recently. I loved the simple design.

On the second sample I added a blue scalloped circle, watercolored the leaves and added some pen-stitching. I have a hard time doing simple cards so I really liked this layout!

Thursday challenge cards

I hope you all are having fun with the challenges over at Splitcoaststampers! Here are the cards I made for today’s challenges. I really like how they turned out….I hope you like them too! :)

I have had in my mind for a long time that I wanted to make an all-white card with different textures and Sharon’s challenge was a perfect opportunity to try it! Thanks to Sharon (notimetostamp) for giving us the challenge!

I used all Shimmery white cs on this card. The first layer was dry embossed with the Cuttlebug Textile folder. The second layer and the circle were heat embossed with white ep and the Filigree bg stamp. The main image was stamped in black, watercolored and covered with super sticky tape & clear micro-beads. I finished it off with sheer ribbon, some brads and a pearl embellishment.

My second card was for another fun challenge by Lauren (mytime) . I used flocking and the Essential glue pad on the Caribbean cs with the stripes from the Background Sampler set to make fuzzy stripes. The 2-way glue pen was used on the yarn balls for fuzzy yarn. AND glue dots were carefully applied to the heads of the brads for funky, fuzzy brads! I LOVE those brads! :)

oval punch frame tutorial

I made a card recently for a swap and I used the large SU! oval punch to make the frame. It is very easy but I thought I would do a quick tutorial with pics to show you how I created it.

Supplies: cardstock, large SU! oval punch, pencil, Scotch temporary tape

I knew that I was going to make more than 1, so I created a pattern first. I started with a scrap piece of green cardstock cut to 1 3/4 in. by 2 1/4 in. Then I punched an oval out of a scrap piece of coral cardstock. Lay the oval onto the green cs, centering it as best as you can. Trace the oval shape onto the green piece. Discard the oval.

oval-frame-1-dmz.jpg

Turn the punch upside down with the opening facing you. Slip the green piece inside and line up the tracing with the punch opening.

*tip- I have a very hard time working with small pieces in the punches to get them positioned where I want them. To make it easier, stick a piece of temporary tape on the cardstock as shown in the pic below. Use the eraser end of a pencil or any other tool on the temporary tape to “grip” the cardstock and move it to where you want it. (I just use my finger but I can’t endorse sticking your finger in the punches! LOL).

oval-frame-2-dmz.jpg

When you get the traced oval lined up with the punch opening, then punch it out.

oval-frame-3-dmz.jpg

Your oval frame is done! If you want, you can keep this one for a pattern to trace again later. Have fun with it….and if you try it out, link your card back here so I can see what you made! :)

Here’s a pic of the frame on a finished card:

more cookie crumbs!

Published by diane (cookiestamper) under blog candy

Are you like me? Still haven’t had a chance to order much yet from the new catty? I did order one set….but haven’t received it yet. When I was playing with my friend’s new sets I stamped some extra pieces…..so I’m giving away some card candy for blog candy. LOL. This time I will pick two winners. Each will receive 1 bag of Priceless and 1 bag of Wanted pieces. They are already cut out and ready to attach to your project. If you like, you can sponge the edges, poke some holes, etc. as I did with the card pieces in the pic below…or you can attach them as they are. The Priceless pieces were stamped with the new colors and the Wanted pieces were done with the colors that were featured with this set in the catty. I am anxious to order these two sets. Just post a comment here and tell me what set or accessory you are anxious to order….and on Friday I will pick two winners. :)
